Training Dike Park Lake Millers Ferry Alabama River

On State Route 28 right before you cross over The Alabama River bridge you will find the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Training Dike Park. The park has a large male and female restroom area that is Handicap accessible and a large pavilion with picnic tables. It also has picnic tables and grills out from under the pavilion. There is playground and an area to play soft ball or basketball. I also noticed a few bike riders from nearby Millers Ferry Campground and people walking their dogs.

Training Dike Park Jetty Alabama River

Fishing at Training Dike Park at Lake Millers Ferry Alabama River

Lets not forget why we are here. Fishing of course. There is numerous areas to fish here at the Training Dike Park. My favorite by for is the Rock jetty that extends way almost out to the main channel of the Alabama River. I have caught Crappie, Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass and Catfish mostly on the south side of the jetty. Using shad, minnows, worms and catawba worms fishing has been good here for me over the years.

The End of the Rock Jetty at Training Dike Park at Alabama River

When you get out to the end of the rock jetty at the Training Dike Park on the Alabama River. I am assuming you made it past the Geese without sustaining any injuries. No joke. Be careful, they are territorial. The depth of the water at the edge is about 7 to 10 feet and gradually drops to around 30 and then on to around 40 to 50 feet. I have caught catfish out here deep. Spotted bass on the back side where the current swirls around the south side and is protected by the jetty. This is a nice park to just go and spend some quiet time with nature and enjoy the outdoors and the view.
