Boat Launch and Day Use Fee Collection For Alabama River
At this time the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has implemented a new day use and boat launch fee collection procedure for some boat ramps and day use facilities. I was able to use this service at recreation.gov this past Saturday. The process was simple and seamless. When you go to the website you will have to search for the day use park or boat ramp you want to use. Select the days you want to use the facility then purchase. There is a mobile app available also recreation.gov and just as simple to use. Mark your locations as favorites and it will be way easier to find them next time.
Locations
The locations that are affected in the Alabama River area above and below Millers Ferry Lock and Dam. Chilatchee Creek Park, Isaac Creek – Dam site East Bank Claiborne, Shell Creek Park are the boat launch sites affected. The day use locations affected in our area is Bridgeport Beach and East Bank Beach. Follow the link here to read the press release from the Corps of Engineers Mobile District website https://www.sam.usace.army.mil/Media/News-Releases/Article/3017602/alabama-river-lakes-changes-collection-method-of-boat-launch-day-use-fees/
As instructed go to www.recreation.gov and search for the site you plan on launching your boat at. There you can purchase your single day use pass for $5. If you do not have the option to print at home your tag number on your vehicle will be used for verification of purchase at the boat launch on the Alabama River at Millers Ferry Alabama.
I really do think this will be implemented at all U.S. Corp of Engineers Landing and Day Use Facilities. Maybe when it does our launch fees will go down but I won’t hold my breath. As long as boaters and day use park visitors are not required to have a printed copy of the day use pass, I think this will be a good thing.
