Fishing Off The Old Alabama Highway 28 Bridge at Millers Ferry
If you are looking for a place to do some bank fishing on Lake Millers Ferry on the Alabama River, look no further. I have a few great spots. When you turn off of Alabama Highway 28 at the Shell Creek Boat Ramp road stay straight. This is the old Alabama Highway 28 and dead ends at the old Highway 28 bridge.
At this time all that is required to fish here is an Alabama Freshwater Fishing License. A bathroom is available over at the Shell Creek landing. Bring your Chairs, Cooler, bait and umbrella. Bring your bait from where ever you are coming from at the time I am writing this post the Millers Ferry Marina is closed. So check out my other post for locations in the area to get your bait https://www.comefishalabama.com/post/fishing-bait-and-food-in-the-millers-ferry-camden-alabama-area
There is another section of the old Highway 28 bridge on the other side of the river. The fishing is better on the Shell Creek Side because the water is deeper in my opinion but I have caught fish on both sides. The depth of the water ranges from about 3 feet to around 12 feet. The old bridge does not extend out to the main channel of the river so there is no access to deeper water. I have caught bass, crappie, catfish and an eel or two here. So if one is not biting try one of the others.
Bank Fishing At Millers Ferry Dam Off Of Alabama Highway 28
I wanted to add a little information about fishing below the Millers Ferry Lock and Dam off of Alabama Highway 28. If you follow the road down to the Dam about 2 miles you will come to the bank fishing area below Millers Ferry Dam. There are tables and a bathroom available. This place is not handicap accessible. When you park if you look to the right there is a sand bar that is perfect for spending the day with the kids or alone fishing. I would not recommend fishing with kids off of the big rocks. Bank Fishing The Training Dike Park At Millers Ferry
Right past the turn for Millers Ferry Campground there is a Training Dike Park on the left hand side of Highway 28. It used to be the old swimming area. Now it is a recreation area without the swimming. Here you will find a Handicap accessible bathroom, a pavilion, a playground for the kids, a ball field and plenty of bank fishing for you or your children. There is no fee station at this park. Operating hours are 7am to 7pm seven days a week.
