Lake Millers Ferry, Alabama River Fishing Update 5/12/22

My Fishing Update For Lake Millers Ferry May 12, 2022

Well it is Thursday May 12, 2022 and I have made my rounds checking for bait and fishing conditions on the Alabama River at Lake Millers Ferry. I am going to start off by saying I rode over to the Powerhouse at the Corps of Engineers facility at Millers Ferry and apparently the fish are biting. The parking lot was full of cars and the water level was perfect.

My next stop was over below the Millers Ferry Dam at the Bank Fishing park off of Alabama Highway 28. I was able to catch some Crawfish on the way with my cast net. Check out the video below. I talked to a gentleman in the parking lot at the dam and he said the bream and crappie are biting at the Claiborne Lock and Dam. The water is near perfect at the Millers Ferry Lock and Dam for bank fishing or boat fishing.

My next stop was over at Shell Creek Landing where I threw my cast net a few times to see if there was a fresh hatch of Shad but had no such luck at this time. Next I drove over to Cobbs Landing at Canton Bend on the Alabama River. This is where you would launch your boat if you wanted to fish below the Millers Ferry Lock and Dam or the Powerhouse. The dirt road section of the county road that goes to Cobbs Landing is Being worked on this week by Wilcox County and from what I see today the road will be a whole lot better by this weekend.

I turned around after seeing there would be a wait before I could get down to Cobbs Landing because of the road work. I went on over to Ellis Landing, on the Alabama River. Pulled up and the water level is perfect. Gave my cast net another try and what I caught was a couple of large shad a small bream, small crappie, small catfish and two small drum. So no fresh hatch of shad at Ellis Landing either. It will not be long before we do have a fresh hatch and I will have some available. Video below

From what I have seen the water level is great and just a little dingy and might stay that way this weekend because of a chance of a rain shower here or there. Water temperature is around 70 degrees. Also the Largemouth Bass and spots are still in and out of the Grass and laying next to those big logs. The Crappie are Biting on and off the bed. From what I have seen on Facebook, Mr. Overstreet is catching some nice ones. I haven’t caught a lot of Catfish yet. Waiting for the warmer nights.
